Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: AK-MS-12
Station Name: Talkeetna 7.6 S
Report Date: 9/27/2021
Submitted: 9/27/2021 8:15 AM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
We saw just 0.14" of precipitation across the week but also the first snow of the season and three hard freezes with morning temps in the low to middle-upper twenties under clear skies. The ground is drying out a bit but is also seeing heavy frost on the cold mornings. The wild birds are becoming frenetic in their feeder activity and I no longer hear the loons on Question Lake in the mornings. Much of the ground level vegetation has succumbed to the freezing morning temps and is withering away while the color change continues in the birches. The moose are around and beginning to appear a bit more often now. I suspect September will be a bit colder than 'normal' this year. In a nod to the approaching cold temps the borough has removed their 'fire warning level' placards from their displays.
