One-week interim report to update conditions. Station precipitation through the first 3 weeks of Feb. (rain and snow/ice) is at 6.19" almost 300% of normal (~4 in.). If the month ended today it would be a top 5 wettest February on record at several nearby climate stations. This has reduced the Water year (Oct. 1 to date) deficit to less than a half-inch below the NOAA normal, 14.24" v. 14.63".
The nearby USGS gage Roanoke River at Roanoke 7-day flow as of 2/20/25 was 3712 cfs or the 99th percentile of all flows for the date (812% of median). This is still in response to the record rain event of 2/15-16. but stages are falling rapidly.
Carvins Cove local water supply reservoir as of 2/20 was at 0.0 feet below full pond (100% capacity) a +2.3 ft. change over the past week. This is the first CM report since 4/15/24 that I have noted full capacity at this key reservoir.
US Drought Monitor (USDM) issued as of 2/18/25 showed no drought over the western 2/3 of VA and nearby WV. Will show Mildly Wet at this site to better reflect the recent dramatic changes and could almost put Moderately Wet but no significant precipitation expected the next week.
